Does Planet Fitness Have a Sauna?

Allsaunas•October 9, 2026•5 min read

No. Planet Fitness doesn't have saunas, and it doesn't have steam rooms, pools, or hot tubs either. That's true for the standard membership and for Black Card.

If a sauna after your workout matters to you, you'll need a different gym or a separate place to sauna. Here's what Planet Fitness offers instead and which chains do have a sauna.

The Black Card Spa isn't a sauna

The Black Card Spa is a set of relaxation machines, not a heat room. Depending on the club, it can include HydroMassage beds (a water-jet massage bed you lie on fully clothed), massage chairs, Total Body Enhancement (a red-light booth), and tanning beds. Some clubs also have a Recovery Lounge with a CryoLounge chair that applies targeted heat and cold to parts of your body.

None of these heat you the way a sauna does. A sauna raises your core temperature and gets you sweating, usually somewhere between 150 and 195°F. A HydroMassage bed feels more like a massage chair with warm water inside it.

Why Planet Fitness skips saunas

Answering a member's question on Yelp, Planet Fitness's customer service team wrote: "In order to keep our membership costs conveniently low, we do not offer pools or saunas."

That fits the business. Planet Fitness keeps prices low by keeping clubs simple, and saunas cost money to build, heat, clean, and inspect.

People who check gym amenities one club at a time have found the same thing. The gym directory GymsWithSauna looked at about 2,280 Planet Fitness locations and didn't find a dry sauna, infrared sauna, or steam room at any of them. You'll still see the odd review or Reddit post mentioning a sauna at a Planet Fitness. Those are usually old, about a building that used to be a different gym, or simply wrong.

Gym chains that do have saunas

If you want a sauna included with your membership, these are the chains to look at first. The numbers below are distinct clubs in the AllSaunas directory, which lists gyms where we've found a sauna or steam room. They aren't every club each chain runs.

ChainClubs in our directoryWhat those clubs have
24 Hour Fitness185Steam room at 166, dry sauna at 151
YMCA87Dry sauna at 73, steam room at 48
Crunch54Dry sauna at 49, steam room at 40
In-Shape (California)50Dry sauna at 48, steam room at 47
Equinox41Steam room at all 41, dry sauna at 13
Life Time18Dry sauna and steam at nearly all, cold plunge at 14
LA Fitness7Dry sauna at all 7

LA Fitness is a bigger deal than our small count suggests. Most LA Fitness clubs have a dry sauna in the locker rooms. GymsWithSauna puts it at about 9 in 10 clubs, and we cover it in our LA Fitness article.

Amenities change from club to club within every chain, so look up the specific location before you join. Search gyms with a sauna near you to see which clubs in your area have a dry sauna, a steam room, or both.

What to check before you switch gyms

A sauna in a gym usually sits inside the men's and women's locker rooms. That means it's not co-ed, and you'll be sharing it with whoever is in the locker room at the time. Evenings after work are the busiest.

It's also worth asking whether the sauna is open the whole time the gym is. Some clubs close the sauna earlier for cleaning, and rooms do go out of service for repairs. If the sauna is the main reason you're joining, ask to see it on your tour.

Finally, check that your membership covers the club with the sauna. Some plans are tied to one home club.

Other ways to get sauna time

You don't need a gym membership to use a sauna. Many gyms, hotel spas, and bathhouses sell day passes, which is an easy way to try a place before committing to anything.

Public and community saunas have also opened in a lot of cities, including Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, and New York. Most let you book a time slot online, often 60 to 90 minutes, without a membership. Korean spas are another good option: one entry fee usually covers several heat rooms, and you can stay for hours. You can browse bathhouses or see every sauna by state.

If it's your first time in a public sauna, our guide to what to wear in a sauna covers the dress codes. They differ a lot between a gym, a Korean spa, and a traditional bathhouse.
