Life Time, 24 Hour Fitness, Crunch, In-Shape and most YMCAs have a sauna at nearly every club we list, and Equinox has a steam room at all of them. Planet Fitness is the big chain without one: no sauna room and no steam room. Whatever the chain, amenities change from club to club, so check the exact club before you join.
The AllSaunas directory lists 1,103 gyms and health clubs with a sauna or steam room, as of November 2026. Of those, 1,050 have a sauna, 691 have a steam room, and 638 have both. Only 215 have a cold plunge, and 86 of those are Life Time clubs.
The table counts the clubs of each chain in our directory. We only list places where we found a sauna or steam room, so "clubs we list" is not the size of the chain. A chain with 600 clubs might have 50 in our directory. Read every number as "of the clubs we list."
| Chain | Clubs we list | Sauna | Steam room | Cold plunge |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Life Time | 164 | 164 | 150 | 86 |
| 24 Hour Fitness | 180 | 176 | 159 | 0 |
| YMCA | 84 | 79 | 46 | 0 |
| Crunch Fitness | 52 | 52 | 5 | 0 |
| In-Shape (California) | 49 | 49 | 45 | 1 |
| Equinox | 36 | 9 | 36 | 7 |
| Onelife Fitness | 31 | 31 | 17 | 0 |
| Genesis Health Clubs | 28 | 27 | 25 | 3 |
| LA Fitness | 7 | 7 | 0 | 0 |
"Sauna" here means a dry or infrared sauna room, or a sauna whose type we haven't recorded. Steam rooms are counted on their own.
A few patterns stand out. Life Time is the most complete: every club we list has a sauna, most have a steam room, and about half have a cold plunge. 24 Hour Fitness has the most clubs in our directory, and 116 of its 180 are in California. Crunch is almost always a dry sauna with no steam room. Equinox is the reverse, with a steam room everywhere and a dry sauna at only a few clubs.
LA Fitness is a special case. We list only 7 of its clubs, too few to say much from our own data. Our LA Fitness article, linked in the table, covers the chain as a whole: most clubs have a dry sauna in each locker room.
Smaller chains show up too, with fewer clubs each: Youfit (9), Gold's Gym (7) and Bay Club (7) among them.
Planet Fitness has no sauna rooms or steam rooms, and we list none of its clubs. Its Black Card Spa has HydroMassage beds, massage chairs and tanning instead, which our Planet Fitness article explains. Some Planet Fitness club pages now list a "Red Light Sauna" as a new Black Card perk, described as red light and infrared in one unit. It only shows up at some clubs, so ask your club if you want it.
We also list no clubs from Anytime Fitness, EoS Fitness, Vasa, Chuze, Orangetheory or Blink. That doesn't prove none of their clubs have a sauna. It means we haven't found one yet. Budget gyms and class studios usually skip saunas, so if your club has one, it will say so on its amenities page.
A sauna is the most common, by a wide margin. 1,050 of the 1,103 gyms we list have one. 846 of those have a traditional dry sauna, and 143 gyms have an infrared room.
Steam rooms come second. More than half the gyms we list have one, and most of those also have a sauna. Only 53 gyms in our directory have a steam room and no sauna. If you're not sure which you'd prefer, our guide to steam rooms vs saunas explains the difference.
Cold plunges are still rare at gyms. Just 215 of the 1,103 have one. Life Time alone has 86 of them. A few more are at Equinox and Genesis Health Clubs, and most of the rest are single clubs or small local chains. If a plunge after the sauna matters to you, Life Time is the easiest chain to bet on, but only about half its clubs we list have one.
Hot tubs are common too: 564 of the gyms we list have one, usually next to the pool.
At most gyms, yes. The sauna is usually inside the men's and women's locker rooms, so anyone who can use the locker room can use it. Crunch says on its own club pages that sauna access comes with every membership, even its cheapest Base plan. LA Fitness includes the sauna at your home club with a standard membership.
The extras are where plans differ. At Crunch, the infrared sauna some clubs have sits in the Relax & Recover area, which comes with the top Peak Results plan. Planet Fitness's Red Light Sauna is a Black Card perk. Some chains also tie your plan to one club or a group of clubs, so make sure the club with the sauna is on your plan.
Start with the club's own page on the chain's website. Most list amenities club by club, and that's where a sauna, steam room or cold plunge will show up. If the page is vague, call the front desk and ask three things: is there a sauna, is it in the locker room or a shared area, and does my plan include it.
You can also search our directory for gyms with a sauna and narrow the results to gyms with a steam room or a cold plunge. Each gym page shows the rooms by area, with "Male area", "Female area" and "Co-ed area" tabs, plus the clothing rules where we know them. That tells you whether the sauna is single-sex or shared before you walk in.
If you sauna several times a week, a gym is often the cheapest way to do it. Our article on sauna memberships compares gym plans with bathhouses and sauna studios.
Life Time, 24 Hour Fitness, Crunch Fitness, In-Shape, Onelife, Genesis Health Clubs and most YMCAs have a sauna at nearly every club in our directory. Equinox has a steam room at every club we list but a dry sauna at only a few. Planet Fitness has no sauna rooms.
Life Time, 24 Hour Fitness, In-Shape and Genesis Health Clubs have both at most of the clubs we list. Across the directory, 638 of the 1,103 gyms have both. Crunch is the exception among big chains: only 5 of the 52 Crunch clubs we list have a steam room.
No, Planet Fitness has no sauna rooms or steam rooms. Some clubs list a "Red Light Sauna" unit as a Black Card perk, so ask your club if that's what you're after.
Most do, but not every club. The sauna is usually a dry sauna in each locker room, and steam rooms are rare. Check your club's page before you join.
Life Time, by far. 86 of the 215 gyms with a cold plunge in our directory are Life Time clubs. A few Equinox and Genesis Health Clubs locations have one, along with some independent gyms.
Usually not. Most gym saunas are inside the men's and women's locker rooms. Shared co-ed areas are more common for pools, hot tubs and cold plunges. Our guide to whether saunas are gender separated has more.
In a single-sex locker room sauna, most people wear a towel, and a swimsuit is always fine. In a co-ed area, wear a swimsuit. Some chains, such as Life Time, don't allow nudity in the sauna, even in the locker room. See what to wear in a sauna.
